Some may find that having a disability can leave you feeling low as you can’t continue with the daily activities like you used to. However whilst searching online I fell upon a few facts about gardening therapy. The information I found gave a basis on how gardening can help people with impairments get back into a routine. Tenura offers a wide range of products that can help make it comfortable for you to do these activities again.

Gardening Therapy

Gardening therapy is based around the idea of routine and purpose. Supplying someone living with a disability a reason to get up in the morning creates more positive energy. For those with disabilities it can be a challenge getting back into those daily routines. Gardening gives you a reason to get out of the house as some gardens need daily care. You are getting a natural source of Vitamin D being in the sun, promoting a better night’s sleep whilst doing light exercise throughout the day. As the days go by you will begin to notice that you are accomplishing more and felling less down and having more energy.

During my research I also found out that gardening reduces the chances of having a heart attack and diabetes, as it promotes healthy living. Without realising it you are doing a few hours of exercise every day and slowly developing muscles that may have caused pain or discomfort. Even though being outside all day is a positive thing; there are some precautions to take. Examples would be to make sure you drink plenty of water, take regular breaks, wear protective clothing, store equipment safely or ensure that it isn’t causing a hazard when in use.

Extreme grip mats

Extreme grip mats are made from a strong tacky like material which will prevent things from moving. This mat creates a bond to most surfaces ​and they’re designed for high movement areas, meaning they will adhere to a surface instantly, thus creating a strong non slip surface. These mats are dishwasher safe or can be cleaned with hot soapy water, once fully dry they are ready for usage again without losing any of its adhesive qualities.

This product can be used by those who have balancing issues. The following are examples of where to use these products;

You can cut this fabric down to size with scissors for what purpose it is needed. Similarly to the grip mats, they are easy to wash with warm soapy water. Once they are fully dry they are ready for use again without losing any of its non slip properties.

• If you find discomfort whilst kneeling down this fabric is cushioned, creating comfort when leaned on. Simply lay it down on the ground and fold as many times as needed to create extra comfort.
• When planting you can place plants on the non slip fabric to keep them in place without causing any damage to them.

Moulded Cup Holder

The Tenura Moulded cup holder is available in red and blue; it has a strong anti-microbial construction which prevents any bacteria or fungi spreading on the material. This product can also be washed with ease either in the dishwasher or with hot soapy water then once fully dried it is ready to use again without losing any of its non slip properties. It works just like a regular coaster but it is fitted to the bottom of your cup for an anti slip base. This product is beneficial for those who have vision impairments due to it being on the bottom of your cup you don’t have the issue of trying to locate your coaster and risk it falling.

• Apply them to the bottom of small plant pots when filling, moving, carrying or displaying them to prevent movement.
• This product is a good way to place your cup down without risk of it falling or spilling as you normally would when trying to locate and place it on a regular coaster.

CupCaps

Tenura CupCaps are self sealing caps that are made from silicone and are flexible to stretch around the top of a cup or glass preventing spills when shaken or knocked over. This product is perfect for children or those with an unsteady grip, helping to protect clothing or furniture.

• Although the CupCaps have the purpose for just cups and glasses it also has other purposes;       
• Being placed over glasses to stop any cross contamination when using chemicals and staying hydrated.     
• Can be placed over small pots when seeds need the correct atmosphere for germination, while protecting the seeds at the same time. They create a tight seal on the top keeping warmth inside the pot but with a small hole in the centre of the CupCaps allowing oxygen to get in.

Grip Strips and rolls

Tenura silicone grip strips and rolls are two different products with similar purpose, the rolls are made from silicone with a self adhesive backing, they can be used as draw liners, shelf liners or tray liners they can be cut to size with ease and once applied they create a non slip base. However, we do not recommend using this product again once Iremoved from the surface as it loses its adhesive quality. On the other hand the grip strips are made from the same silicone material and are reusable they come in a ¾ inch x 3 ft strip that can be used wherever extra grip is needed. Easy to apply, the materials adhesive-like qualities bonds together and stays in place but also easy to remove.

• While gardening there rolls or strips can be useful if there is extra grip needed;
• Wrap the strips around any tool or hose pipe to create an anti slip grip.
• Apply the strips to a wheelbarrow to create a stronger grip when lifting it.
• The rolls can be used to line trays, buckets, wheelbarrows to create an anti-slip surface when you are moving around.

This material is our faithful non-slip silicone with an added bonus of a strong self adhesive backing, allowing it to be applied to an area as an effective semi-permanent non-slip surface. This will not only provide excellent non-slip properties, but will not damage any items placed upon it.

With the coming of the new year, we thought about how our products are used and the possibilities of where we could expand them to. There are areas in working or personal life where a strong anti slip surface or grip is needed and this is something we have never discussed in detail before, so we thought this was a good opportunity to do so.

Grips Aids for Tools for General maintenance and Repair Work

There are tons of tasks in the workplace and home which require the use of spanners, wrenches, screwdrivers and many other tools to effectively tighten or loosen parts and a strong grip can often be required. These tasks can become pretty difficult for those with physical impairments, or when a particularly stiff bolt, nut or screw doesn’t want to budge. We think Tenura anti slip grip strips and rolls would work perfectly for these kinds of tasks. By using grip strips, or cutting strips from a roll and wrapping these around the handles of tools such as spanners, screwdrivers and pliers, you can dramatically increase the grip and comfort you have on them. This makes them much easier to twist, turn or lever to get tight or rusted nuts, bolts or screws loose and allow you to continue the maintenance of any machinery or appliance.

Stiff oil caps can also be a nightmare when trying to do routine maintenance on the car at home or in a garage. Without the use of a tool or protective layer, these can be hard to get off by hand. Here at Tenura, we feel very much like evangelists of slip prevention. We have always seen the world as a hazardous place. It’s always inevitable that slip and fall accidents happen in slippery and dangerous areas if the correct precautions are not taken.

A good example of this was Dolphins Lineman Laremy Tunsil, who suffered and unfortunate slip and fall accident in the shower at the hotel the Dolphins were staying in before their game against the Titans. This injury to his ankle led Tunsil to miss the game after 4 solid starts.

This fall shows that it doesn’t matter what your physical stature, slips and falls are always around the corner, especially in places like wet rooms, bathrooms or showers. Many people see slips and falls as something which happens to those who are impaired, disabled or elderly. However, events like this really show how this can happen to anyone and can have serious effects on your life. We wish Laremy Tunsil a swift recovery.

Tenura believes a form of slip prevention should be in all baths, showers and wet rooms. Unfortunately, many of the current items for this, such as the common bath mats can create a trip hazard of their own and harbour bacteria easily if not cleaned often.
